Night Manager/Weekend Manager (Women's Shelter)

DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Case Managers, night managers and weekend managers
are responsible for assuring quality service to all guests of the Davies Shelters in a compassionate
and professional manner. This includes supportive interaction with guests and team members,
assessment of guests’ needs, and performance of all work duties as required. Work is performed in a
cost effective and service-oriented manner as it relates to established organizational standards.

OBJECTIVES/ACTIVITIES:

1. Responsible for performing daily work requirements to achieve established objectives of the
program.
2. Supervise guest activities and respond to all guest questions and concerns.
3. Explain program requirements and regulations to guests as needed and assure compliance of
these regulations.
4. Coordinate bed assignments, breakfast, dinner, and other daily routines.
5. Provide "awake" shift coverage and maintain ground security at all times.
6. Recognize and contact professional help, if necessary, in order to maintain guests’ health and
safety.
7. Manage and delegate guests’ daily chore routines. Perform housekeeping and other
maintenance tasks as needed, i.e., change light bulb, plunge toilet, etc. Maintain staff area
cleanliness, etc.
8. Address any behavior issues that create disharmony or non-productive behavior.
9. Act as a positive role model, be a calm presence, maintain professional behavior including
appearance and communication with others.
10. Complete all shift logs, incident reports and written violations.
11. Attend required staff meetings and training.
12. Document and notify management of guest concerns, potential workflow problems and/or
any exceptions to policy that can impact program security.
13. Adhere to staffing schedules to provide adequate/safe staffing coverage and to accomplish
program objectives.

14. Maintain a working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to assure a safe work
environment for clients and all personnel.

EQUIVALENT EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

This position requires demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written
instructions and to provide culturally informed and ethically sound services to guests. It requires
general knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, and persons
with mental, physical and/or emotional struggles.
Specific knowledge and experience with humanistic philosophy, addiction and recovery, family
systems, and mental health dynamics is preferred. Must have the flexibility to work irregular hours
and have the willingness to function as a team member. Must be able to function both
independently and in a team environment. Confidentiality, tact, discretion, and resourcefulness are
always required.

 Organizational skills
 Knowledge and comfortability cooking, cleaning, and maintaining living spaces
 Lift and move up to 50 pounds
 Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit frequently
 Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

The Davies Shelters is a nonprofit homeless shelter that provides safe shelter, compassionate care,
and case management for neighbors experiencing homelessness in Rome, Georgia. Founded in 2003
and named in honor of Rome retired minister Bill Davies, the organization operates a 16-bed men’s
shelter; a women’s shelter with beds for 8 single women and 4 women with children; a free in-house
counseling program; and a food program that includes a working farm and mobile farmer’s market.
The Davies Shelter is guided by three principles: that all have sacred worth; that all are on a
restorative journey; and all should be met with a welcome community.
