Sheltering Since 2003
Our goal is for every guest to leave the Davies Shelters with the tools and ability to be successful on their own.
Our History
The William S. Davies Homeless Shelters began as a men’s shelter in a rented house on South Broad Street in 2003. In 2015, the South Broad rental property was sold and the Davies Shelter accelerated efforts toward finding a permanent home. In late 2016, the first men began arriving at the newly-built Davies Shelter on East 18th Street in early 2017.
What Drives Us
Our Mission
The Davies Shelters provide more than a bed to sleep in – we partner with our neighbors experiencing homelessness to develop the tools and skills to overcome homelessness. Our approach is rooted in digging deep to address the patterns and causes that led to a person’s situation, then helping them develop the tools for growth and change.
sacred worth
Homelessness is traumatic, and people who’ve experienced homelessness need stability in order to grow. A guest’s spot at the Davies Shelters is secure for at least 90 days as long as they are being a good community member. Each guest’s journey begins with being accepted into a safe and stable environment.
restorative journey
Every guest at the Davies Shelters works with a Case Manager to develop goals and a plan to achieve independent living. Case Managers meet with guests every week to check in, track progress, and help connect guests with the resources and community partners that will help ensure their success.
welcome community
The Davies Shelters could not offer the level of care that we do without vital community partners. We work to ensure all guests have access to mental health, physical health, substance misuse, job opportunities & training, social services, affordable housing, and more through community partnerships.
Davies Men's House
Our men’s shelter houses 16 men and features a commercial-grade kitchen, community garden, and ADA-compliant facilities. The Men’s House serves roughly 100 men each year.
Davies House For Women & Children
Our women’s shelter houses 8 single women and 4 women with children, with room for up to 14 children at a time. The Davies Shelters’ administrative offices are also located in an upstairs apartment on the property of the Women’s House
